Dynamic Competition
Disciplines & Competition Format
There are three disciplines of competitive dynamic tunnel flying: Dynamic 2-Way, Dynamic 4-Way and Solo Speed. Competition is typically organized in two phases: Qualification & Tournament. Teams will fly a 3-round qualification after which, their cumulative scores place them in a bracket. From here the Tournament phase starts and teams will compete in head-to-head rounds called Battles until all places are decided.
Types of Rounds
Speed Round - A set sequence of maneuvers that each team must fly as fast as possible. These maneuvers are based around fixed reference points in the tunnel that create a type of racetrack. A team’s overall time is based on their entry to exit as well as any penalties or ‘busts’ they accrued during the round. Penalties are awarded for flying maneuvers improperly, not staying within the bounds of the ‘racetrack’ or taking unauthorized short cuts.
Free Round - A creative round, often flown to music, that is judged on technical difficulty, synchronization and overall presentation.
Rounds by Discipline:
Dynamic 2-Way: Speed & Free Routine
Dynamic 4-Way: Speed Only (Free Routines flown during World Championship meets)
Solo Speed: Speed Only
